Formosan termites have been found in 11 states including: Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. They are mainly restricted to southern areas because their eggs will not hatch below 68° F.
The Formosan termite colony is by far the most aggressive termite. They are usually found nesting in the soil but can also have aerial nests several stories up, if the moisture conditions are conducive. There can be millions of termites in one colony. Due to their size and foraging habits, the Formosan termite can cause significant structural damage to a home within six months.
